What if...?

Hello,

Now believe it or not, I actually had this idea for a blog post a week ago, but I decided to wait awhile before I actually posted it.

Now, it has been established that our country was built on or at least has roots in Roman ideas. This also applies to our architecture. But, I always wondered...What if our country, by some weird circumstance, was built on an entirely different set of ideas? Like, suppose this country was built on eastern ideas, then that would mean that this country would be ENTIRELY different than what it is now. Like for instance, we'd all probably be Buddhists or Daoists and our architecture would've carried a distinctive eastern flair.

  1. I agree that this could be very possible. What if America had been settled from the West Coast? We would probably be living in a very Eastern society and practicing martial arts. Instead of Pearl Harbor remembrance, our people would be remembered for enduring a bombing by the British. We may have actually allied with Hitler.

On a more civilized note, our present counterculture is composed of the things that we would step away from. As you look at it, many Asian influences are evident in the youth: green tea, anime, sushi, etc. Instead, we might be toying with medieval and Roman brawling tactics, taking English Foreign language classes, and looking into Confucianism instead of the Stoicism that we saw in class today.
