Deception

When God created man, He gave them one simple rule: do not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. It seems as if this would be an easy rule to follow, but due to the craftiness of the serpent, Eve could not resist the temptation to break it.

The serpent began tricking Eve by asking, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?". Eve explained that they could eat of any tree except the tree of knowledge of good and evil because they would die if they did. The serpent replied by saying, "you will not surely die", and tells Eve that it will open her eyes to good and evil and she will be like God. Eve noticed how good the fruit looked and desired to gain wisdom, so she tasted it. She gave some to Adam, and he tasted it also.

After eating the fruit, Adam and Eve immediately knew they had done wrong. When they heard God walking through the garden, they attempted to hide from Him. As God questioned them about their strange behavior, Adam and Eve began to play the blame game. Adam blamed Eve for giving the fruit to him, and Eve blamed the serpent for tricking her.

Alot can be learned from the serpent's deception of Eve. He began by questioning God, then he brought out the benefits of the sin and talked around the consequences. Eve believed the serpent's lies and the desire for the fruit grew inside her. She knew it was wrong for her to eat it, but the more she looked at the fruit, the more she wanted it. She had been deceived.
