Abram is a brave man!

So in Genesis chapter 12, the Lord tells Abram to leave his country and go to another land that he has never been to. And Abram did what he was told. First off, the man is 75 years old! That is amazing that he even lived that long back then. But that shows that he was so committed to God and put all his faith into God. So Abram, his wife, and his nephew all set out to this new city.
When they get to Egypt, Abram tells his wife that because she is sooo beautiful, that they must tell people that she is his sister, so that they won't kill him and so he will be treated well. And once the Pharaoh's officials saw her, they praised her to the Pharaoh and at once she was taken into his palace. And as a result the Pharaoh did treat Abram well. He gave him sheep, cattle, servants, and camels. But the Lord inflicted a lot of diseases on the Pharaoh, because of Abram's wife. So the Pharaoh gets pissed and calls Abram to come see him. He asks "Why didn't you tell me she was your wife???". So the Pharaoh gave Abram his wife back and all of his possessions. AWW! It all turned out so well for Abram :).
So the moral is: sometimes God asks us to do things that we don't understand. We want to ask why, but God won't tell you the whole story up front. He wants us to make tough choices and then trust him. And that exactly Abram did. He had no idea where he was going or what was going to happen to him and his family there, but he trusted God and went. He didn't complain, he didn't argue, and he didn't try to talk God into doing something different.
I think Abram was an amazing man. I mean, how many people could honestly do the same thing that he did?

  1. This is very true Olivia, God puts us through trials specifically so that we can learn to trust in Him. If we became all together self-sufficient, wny would we need God? We wouldnt, so He lets us learn to become dependent on Him, and this in turn brings ud closer to Him.
