The story of the birth of Moses is something I'm sure we're all very familiar with. Most anyone who has ever been to Sunday school knows the basics. We've all seen the cartoons of baby Moses in a little boat floating down the Nile, but have we ever really thought about how Moses' mother felt about it all?
When Moses' mother gave birth to him, she saw that he was a "goodly child". Her love for him was strong from the moment he was born, and she decided to attempt to hide him in order to save his life. Hiding a newborn baby couldn't have been an easy task, and after three months Moses' mother could no longer hide him.
Living in fear of someone discovering the baby she was supposed to kill at birth had to have been extremely painful for Moses' mother. Even more painful was probably the realization that she could no longer hide her growing baby. She must have felt like a failure as she coated the basket with tar, placed little Moses inside, and put him in the river.
Imagine the relief Moses' mother must have felt when her daughter came to tell her that Pharaoh's daughter had found Moses and had mercy on him. Better yet, she had the opportunity to be his nurse, and she even got paid for it. God had a plan for Moses' life from the very beginning, and thanks to the bravery of his mother, God was able to use him to accomplish great things.
