A few things...

Again this week I didn't have one single thing that really stood out to me, but several smaller things.
One was how the midwives defended the newborns. If I'm remembering correctly (and tell me if I'm not) the midwives weren't Israelites. So the fact that they revolted against their own government to protect these slave babies is very significant to me. But if you think about it, it makes sense. These women were taking care of the mothers-to-be. They were there through all the problems and the good. By the time the baby was born, they loved it almost as much as the actual mother. Could you imagine then being told you had to kill it? I can't. I would revolt too.

Probably the biggest thing that stood out to me was the discussion of the name God tells Moses, “I Am”. We all know Moses gave excuses for why he couldn't go to the Egyptians: “I'm not a public speaker”, “I'm a wanted man”, “You've got the wrong man”, “I don't even know Your name.” God replies with “I Am.” Most of the time we think of this as being just one of His many names, or as a reference to God transcending time. But I really like what Lucy mentioned in class, that maybe God was saying “I Am” in response to all the things Moses was saying. This to me is just a big reminder that all the things we worry about that we can't do or that we're not, God is.

  1. Kelsey,

So, I looked it up (Exodus 1:15) and turns out that the midwives actually were Hebrews (Israelites). But this doesn't really lessen your point any. It still would have made them incredibly brave for defying the government that had taken them captive. It also showed that despite their years of being in slavery, they still had faith in God and wanted to obey Him! It's a powerful example! Good post.
